How the calculator works

The starting point is a popular rule of thumb from Polish wedding guides: for a full, all-night wedding with vodka only, plan about 0.5–0.7 l per adult guest. The calculator assumes 0.75 l of vodka per drinking guest, which with 80% drinkers gives about 0.6 l per adult.

The drinks mix is split by pure alcohol: wine has about 12%, beer about 5% and vodka 40%. That is why the default settings give about 1 bottle of wine per 2 drinking guests — roughly what is usually put on the tables next to vodka.

Duration changes the result less than proportionally, because most drinking happens in the first half of the wedding. Party style moves the result up or down by a few dozen percent, and the margin and second day are added at the end. Bottles are always rounded up.

Frequently asked questions about wedding alcohol

How much vodka for a wedding of 100 guests?

With 80% of guests drinking, a standard party and a 10% margin, the calculator gives about 42.9 l of vodka, i.e. 86 bottles of 0.5 l, when wine and beer are also on the tables. If guests drink only vodka, move the whole share to vodka — the result will go up.

How much wine for a wedding?

A popular rule is 1 bottle of wine (0.75 l) per 2–3 drinking guests when wine is served next to vodka. For 100 guests with the default settings that is 44 bottles. If wine is the main drink, increase its share in the mix.

How much beer for a wedding?

At many Polish weddings beer is a side drink next to vodka — with the default share it comes to 159 bottles of 0.5 l for 100 guests. For a garden wedding or a crowd of beer lovers, increase the beer share.

How much alcohol for the second-day party?

The calculator counts the second day as about 35% of the first day’s needs, because fewer guests usually come and the party is shorter. Before buying more, check what is left over from the wedding.

How much extra alcohol should I buy?

A 10–15% margin is enough for most weddings. Before buying, ask the shop or wholesaler whether they accept returns of unopened bottles — then the margin does not become a cost.

How much water and soft drinks for a wedding?

Plan at least 1 l of water and 1 l of juices or soft drinks per adult guest for the whole wedding, and count children separately. Water on the tables all night is essential — non-drinkers and drivers will drink the most of it.
